Common kiwi plumbing problems (and how to get them fixed) Series

Because our pipes are working behind the scenes, its easy for us to forget that they can be just as susceptible to damage as our home’s exterior. Many of us take the freedom to flush a toilet or run a tap for granted. That is, until something goes wrong. Today’s blog will tell you what common problems you should be looking out for in your Wellington plumbing, and how they can be fixed quickly and safely.

Leaks

The classic and most common of plumbing problems, leaks can be a little issue that lead to a load of costly repairs. A leaky tap or toilet, for example, will quietly drip your water bill overboard. A sneaky leak in your hidden pipes can cause dramatic moisture buildup in your walls, leading to mould and mildew. In extreme circumstances, a leaky pipe can wet and soak your walls to the point of destruction, compromising the very stability of your home.

With the right tools from your local DIY store (ask an assistant for help) you can most likely fix easy-to-see leaks around your home, such as the sealant around the bottom of your taps and toilet. For the bigger, badder jobs, you can always call on the team at Trito! But better be quicker and safer than sorry!

Burst pipes

It’s a drama that all homeowners dread: walking in the door after a long, hard day at work, only to find your home flooded thanks to a burst pipe. While this isn’t an every-day type of problem, its certainly the kind to cause alarm.

So how do burst pipes happen? Usually bursts occur when there’s a fitting failure or corrosion in your pipework, usually at points where the pipes are joined together.

A trusted Wellington plumber can put things right for you, but before you give the Team at Trito a call, please be sure to turn your water off at the main stop tap. Depending on how bad the flooding is (if the water has gone over plugs and wires), you might need to turn your power off too.

Then you’re free to call the team at Trito!

Be sure to keep an eye out later this month for more useful info on common Wellington plumbing emergencies and how to fix them.
