There are plenty of misconceptions about waterproofing out there, all of which serve to leave you and your buildings vulnerable. The internet, and half-done DIY jobs have spread these myths like water seeping through an unsealed concrete foundation. We’re here to set the record straight, this is the first of a series addressing waterproofing misconceptions. Today we’re focusing on Basement waterproofing myths.
Myth 1: Black tar paint is just as good as the specialised product.
This is a dangerous one, because it gives you the illusion of safety. In reality, black tar or waterproof paint is no replacement for proper waterproofing. It doesn’t matter if its painted on the inside or outside of the foundation, it’s simply not enough. The paint may be enough to combat some vapour, but it won’t protect your walls and foundations from moisture seeping in and causing structural damage. Basement waterproofing is worth doing, and worth doing properly. TritoFLEX’s basement waterproofing is high quality and specialised, don’t settle for less.
Myth 2: Waterproofing can’t stop all the leaks.
This misconception has its roots in a job only half down. It can be tempting, when you’ve found a leak, to only waterproof what looks vulnerable. It may look more cost effective, after all you’ve found the problem, it’s the puddle at your feet! The problem is that proper waterproofing is a fully functioning system, and a half-waterproofed basement has only half a system. Fixing only the leak you can see doesn’t fix all the leaks present. You wouldn’t wear half a raincoat, or carry half an umbrella, it’s important to give your basement the same consideration.
Waterproofing only half a room will always leave you vulnerable to structural problems, and eventually health risks from moisture. Professionally applied Basement Waterproofing combats all leaks and prevents all moisture build up.
