Finally, after a long and miserably cold winter we can look forward to a gorgeous warm summer. Does this mean all our weather worries are over in regard to our roofs? Unfortunately, it would seem that extreme summer heat can be just as damaging for your roof as those cold bitter winters. Both extreme cold and extreme heat can have a harmful effect on our building’s exterior.
The good news is that, by taking a few preventative measures, we can avoid damage and guarantee the safety and integrity of our roofs for summers and winters to come!
What the sun and heat are doing to your roof
A hot summer and a bright sun beating down on your roof can actually be enough to cause cracks, bumps and peeling on the surface of your roof. We often don’t even notice any of this damage taking place until winter eventually comes around and brings a rain that leaks into those fresh cracks.
What can you do to help your roof
While commercial roofs tend to prove a lot tougher than the roofs of our homes, a hot sun will still pack a harmful punch on your roof. It takes a really tough material to hold everything together in the hot dry sunshine, and that material is TritoFlex.
Other tips
If you have an attic, we would suggest keeping all the windows and doors open up there during the summer to encourage regular air flow. This will send some of that heat away from hovering in your roof (causing you much less trouble in the future).
As always, we recommend regular checkups with the experts. The team at Trito are experts in all things flat roof waterproofing and flat roof insulation (or commercial insulation). Have the team at Trito inspect your roof in Wellington this summer and offer you the advice you need to maintain the integrity of your home.
