Tips from the Trito Team for picking the perfect roof

New Zealand is a cool little country, but our location invites a whole world of wicked weather. Because of the crazy, colossal storms we’ve come to expect it’s vital that we stay weather-conscious when we select building materials. The most important part of a building consider in this regard is the roof, and we’ve got enough experience with a myriad of materials to help you make a decision on the best kinds to buy:

Metal

A metal roof is definitely the most popular pick in our country as far as roofing materials go. This is most likely due to the fact that a well-installed metal roof can last from 30-70 years! Depending on the type of metal and the treatment you arrange for it, you could be in for a tough roof that isn’t going anywhere in an intense storm.

Contrary to what you might thing, a metal roof is quite a light structure. It’s energy efficient, durable and easily to mold into cool shapes such as shingles or tiles.

Aluminium, copper, zinc and steel are your usual metals used in roofing, and we recommend talking to a professional about your specific project before going ahead and selecting one of these.

Asphalt Roofing

Otherwise known as composite roofing, asphalt is a fiberglass or rag mat/asphalt mix, covered and coloured with mineral granules. Asphalt is a popular choice for flat roofs. It’s also a good choice if you’re on a budget; it won’t set you back too many bucks!

The only issue with asphalt is that it isn’t the hardiest roofing material out there. Without proper waterproofing and windproofing, you’ll be forced to fork out for ongoing fix-it jobs. TRITOflex is an excellent option, in this case. It’s a spray-on liquid rubber which will securely and seamlessly weather-proof your otherwise leaky roof.

Stay tuned for the next part of our blog, coming this month! We’ll explore a few other roofing options to consider with different benefits, brought to you by the talented, well-trained team at Trito.
